What factors affect stairlift costs?
The cost of a stairlift can be affected by multiple factors, some making them considerably more expensive. One of the main factors that will affect the price of your stairlift is whether it is a curved stairlift or a straight stairlift. This is due to a curved stairlift being custom-made for your staircase, which ensures a perfect fit but usually comes at a higher cost. Another factor that will affect the price of your stairlift is some of the extra features that you can have with your stairlift. These things mainly include a powered hinged rail, a powered footrest and a powered swivel. All of these extras will increase the overall price of your stairlift, but if budget is a limiting factor for yo,u then don’t worry, we can talk you through all of these extras to see if any of them fit your needs and if they are going to be necessary.
Types of stairlifts and their price ranges
Curved Stairlifts – from £6,000
Curved stairlifts can range largely in price as no two are the same due to them being custom-made for every staircase. Typically Curved stairlifts can range from £6,000 – £8,000 from South Coast Stairlifts. This depends on the model of the stairlift and the amount of bends in the stairlift rail. In terms of stairlift models, at South Coast Stairlifts for curved stairlifts we offer the Flow X and the Handicare Freecurve.

Straight Stairlifts – from £1,950
Straight stairlift prices don’t tend to fluctuate too much, unusually, the main factor affecting the cost of a straight stairlift is the model of stairlift. At South Coast Stairlifts for straight stairlifts we offer the Brooks 130 and the HomeGlide. These straight stairlifts start from £1950 and have a very short lead time, sometimes as little as a few days. The straight stairlifts come with extras such as a hinged rail, powered swivel and a powered footrest that will add to the final cost of the stairlift.

Reconditioned Stairlifts – from £1,350
At South Coast Stairlifts we only offer straight stairlifts as a reconditioned option, specifically the Brooks 130. These Reconditioned Stairlifts start from £1350 and are usually around 4-5 years old. Opting for pre-owned stairlifts can be an excellent choice for individuals with budget constraints, as they come at a lower cost compared to brand-new ones. Despite being reconditioned, you can trust that the quality remains top-notch. Additionally, all reconditioned stairlifts are accompanied by a 2-year warranty.

Rental Stairlifts – £495
If you are only looking for a temporary solution, maybe you have an elderly relative visiting or you had an accident that will affect your mobility for a while, then a rental stairlift might be the perfect solution for you. Rental stairlifts cost a one-off payment of £495 followed by payments of £50 per month. This includes the installation of the stairlift, all of the servicing, 24-hour telephone support and the removal of the stairlift when it’s needed. Also, there is no minimum amount of time that you need to keep the lift, it can be 10 days or 10 years.

Outdoor Stairlifts – from £2,800
Stairlifts aren’t just for indoor use; the Brooks 130 outdoor stairlift and the HomeGlide Outdoor provide access to outdoor spaces and come with the same features as the indoor models, with the addition of weather-resistant materials for extra protection. Additional Features
With a lot of our stairlifts, there are optional additional features that you can add to improve functionality and get the most out of your stairlift. Sometimes we will recommend some of these extras, but it’s completely up to you if you decide to have these or not. Here are some examples of additional features we offer:
- Manual Hinged Rail – A hinged rail allows you to fold the end of your stairlift rail away so that it doesn’t become an obstruction when the stairlift is not in use. With a manual hinged rail ,you are required to manually fold the rail away.
- Powered Hinged Rail – Similar to the Manual Hinged Rail, the Powered Hinged Rail allows a user to fold away the end of their rail when the stairlift is not in use. The difference between the two being that with the powered alternative, the rail folds itself away at the press of a button.
- Powered Seat Swivel – A powered seat swivel is a feature that simply swivels the seat of the stairlifts at the top or the bottom of the staircase, allowing you to easily get in and out of the stairlift.
- Powered Footrest – the powered footrest allows a user to fold away the footrest with the press of a button rather than having to do it manually.
Reconditioned vs New Stairlifts, Which one’s for me?
There are pros and cons of both reconditioned and new stairlifts. Of course, the obvious benefit of a reconditioned lift is the reduced price, however, it does come with the cons of a second-hand product, but at South Coast Stairlifts, we would only sell a reconditioned stairlift if we were sure that it was in perfect working order and up to a certain standard.
The other thing to consider when deciding between a new and reconditioned stairlift is the lead times. A reconditioned stairlift can often be installed within a week, however, a new stairlift will come from the factory and will have a lead time of 1-5 weeks. If this is a limiting factor for you, then potentially a reconditioned stairlift might be the best option. If you need some help deciding what the best option for you would be then don’t hesitate to reach out and a member of the team would be happy to help.
